But your adult child wants what everyone wants: friendship, connection, and maybe love. Avoiding the topic doesn't keep them safe. Good education does.
Date-Ability takes the pressure off. Qualified counsellors cover it all — friendships, dating, consent, online safety and sexual health — in a structured, respectful program built for adults with autism and intellectual disability.
What Date-Ability does
- Safe, small groups — a maximum of 12 people, led by ACA-registered counsellors
- Meets them where they are — plain language, visual supports, easy-read workbooks
- Covers the hard topics well — consent, red flags, online safety and sexual health, taught by professionals
- Builds real friendships — the group itself becomes a social circle, ending with a graduation social event
- Keeps you in the loop — with your family member's consent, facilitators can share progress with you
What parents ask us most
Is the content age-appropriate and safe?
Yes. Every session is delivered by ACA-registered counsellors, with qualified sexologists leading the sexual health content. Everything is taught in plain language, at the group's pace, in a trauma-informed way.
Will I know what's being covered?
With your family member's consent, facilitators can keep families and support workers in the loop, so learning can be reinforced at home.
What if my son or daughter is anxious about joining a group?
Every participant is offered a 15-minute meet-and-greet or a 1-hour 'Get Group Ready' session with their facilitator before week one. Groups are small — a maximum of 12 people.
Is it really covered by the NDIS?
In most cases, yes. Date-Ability is fundable under several NDIS Capacity Building line items. Our intake team confirms funding before the program starts, so there are no surprises.
What about participants aged 16–21?
FS Academy's Guide to Adulting program is designed for 16–21 year olds — 8 weeks blending relationship skills and financial literacy. Ask us about it when you enquire.
