Everyone deserves connection.
Date-Ability exists because adults with disability were being left out of the most human conversations of all — friendship, love and intimacy.
Our story
Date-Ability began in 2020 with a simple observation: adults with autism and intellectual disability wanted friendships and relationships just like anyone else — but no program actually taught the skills, covered the safety, or talked honestly about sexuality.
So we built one. Since then, Date-Ability has grown from a single Adelaide group into a national program delivered across five states and online, with more than 500 participants and a framework refined every single year.
Our team
Every Date-Ability group is delivered by qualified professionals — ACA-registered counsellors, educators and qualified sexologists based in each state. Our facilitators receive ongoing clinical supervision and annual refresher training on the Framework.
Our values
- Dignity of risk — the right to an ordinary life includes the right to take ordinary risks
- Nothing about you without you — participants lead their own learning and choices
- Honest education — we cover the topics others avoid, respectfully and well
- Safety first, always — trauma-informed, qualified, supervised delivery
